Consumer Goods/Retail
Overview Representative assignments

The recent explosive regional, product and media growth in FMCG has seen a huge demand for executives with experience in the relevant industry. Demand, in fact, was until recently higher than the growth rate in the industry itself. Retailers made IPOs; local production companies increased their capacity and turnover; and competition with international manufacturers gained momentum. The market required new approaches to doing business, resulting in the necessity to secure fresh high-level talent.

The companies enjoyed ample financial resources, generating explosive growth. However, few businesses aimed at increasing profitability, liquidity and operational effectiveness. The market saw an increasing number of cross-industrial and intra-industrial career moves, as borrowed moneys allowed companies to engage in hiring the best and most expensive top-managers.  Consequently, Russia witnessed a somewhat distorted upward compensation race between 2007 and 2008 in this sector.

The situation changed somewhat drastically during the six months following the onset of the economic crisis. No longer did the market require directors for strategic development, planning and marketing professionals and consultants who charged a hefty fee but did not always deliver commensurably.

FMCG companies embarked on restructuring and optimization projects. The candidate profiles changed: the market still needs CEOs, CFOs, COOs and change management professionals, but these days the emphasis is on cost-cutting and anti-crisis experience.

The consultants of Pynes & Moerner FMCG practice were successful in different stages of Russian business development. They are accustomed to meeting a diverse array of client’s objectives. Most of our assignments have been CEO, CFO, COO, CCO, BDD, Marketing Director, Sales Director, Independent Director, Purchasing and Logistics Director for Russian and international clients.

To be more efficient while completing executive search projects, the practice has mapped the industry through identifying and assessing over 1000 professionals in key roles in the relevant sectors.
